Terms of service

Grumble Gary buried under a huge stack of contracts, squinting at the fine print

Oh, so NOW you read the terms?

Nobody reads this stuff. You'll scroll to the bottom, click "I agree", and forget it in three seconds. But since you're here — mind the fine print. There's not much of it. I hate paperwork more than you do.

Welcome to Grumble Gary ("we", "us", "the site"). By using this site you agree to these Terms of Service. Grumble Gary is operated from New Zealand and these terms are governed by the laws of New Zealand.

1. Nature of content

The comics, slogans, and text on this site are satirical commentary on everyday life. Nothing on this site is legal, financial, mechanical, or medical advice. Any resemblance to real people, brands, or events is either coincidental or clearly parody.

2. Fair trading

We aim to comply with the New Zealand Fair Trading Act 1986 and Consumer Guarantees Act 1993. We do not make misleading claims about the site or any paid features. If a paid feature is offered in the future, it will carry its own plain-English description at the point of purchase.

3. Your account

You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure. You must not use the site to break the law, harass others, or attempt to bypass access controls.

4. Intellectual property

Generated comic panels and slogans are provided for personal, non-commercial use unless we explicitly grant otherwise in writing. The Grumble Gary character, name, and visual identity remain our intellectual property.

5. Credit packs, payments and refunds

Rants are generated using pre-purchased credits. Credit packs are one-time digital purchases processed by Stripe, Inc. — we never see or store your card details. Because credits are consumed to run generative AI at our cost, all credit purchases are final and non-refundable, except where required by the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 or equivalent consumer law in your jurisdiction. Unused credits do not expire while your account is active but are forfeit if you close your account. Prices are shown in US dollars (USD) and may include tax based on your billing location.

6. Acceptable use

Don't use Gary to generate content that is illegal, hateful, harassing, sexually explicit, impersonates real people, or infringes third-party rights. We may refuse, remove, or throttle generations at our discretion, and we may terminate accounts that abuse the service. Credits consumed prior to termination are not refunded.

7. Community blog submissions

You may submit blog posts for publication on the site without creating an account. By submitting a blog post you:

  • Grant Grumble Gary a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to publish, edit, adapt, and display your submission on this site and in associated social media promotion.
  • Confirm that your submission complies with the Acceptable Use rules in section 6.
  • Acknowledge that Grumble Gary reserves the right to edit, reject, or remove any submission at any time, for any reason, without notice.
  • Understand that choosing "Anonymous" does not exempt you from these terms. Your IP address and user agent are logged for abuse prevention purposes (see the Privacy Policy).

8. Third-party advertisements and links

We display advertisements provided by Google AdSense and may include links to third-party websites. We do not endorse, control, monitor, or guarantee the content, privacy policies, practices, or reliability of any third-party advertisements, products, services, or websites. Your interactions or transactions with advertisers found on the site are solely between you and the advertiser. We are not liable for any loss or damage incurred as a result of any such dealings.

9. Availability and changes

The site is provided "as is". We may add, remove, or change features at any time, and we may suspend accounts that violate these terms.

10. Cross-border users

If you access the site from outside New Zealand, you do so on your own initiative and are responsible for compliance with local law. Where the GDPR applies, we handle your personal data in a manner consistent with GDPR adequacy expectations — see the Privacy Policy.
